Sewing Gal (Rachel) is moving to AR

One of our sewing gals "Rachel" is moving to AR with her son in end of June 2011. We gave her a going away get together at Bonnie Ruth's in Allen. Rachel has been a good friend and an excellant sewing gal in our little circle. Her own unique creativities brought to our group so much ideas and her philosophy of "don't be afraid to try it" reminds me of "just do it" We all learn from our mistakes, we never find out if our projects will work if we don't give it a try. We will miss you Rachel M. keep in touch with us. Here is a picture of our gathering.

I can't believed that it's been almost a year since my last post on my blog. I feel bad that I have been slacking off....the reason that I haven't post anything is because I haven't been sewing or embroidery. I recently meet up with my sewing gals and I got inspired by some of their sewing ideas and projects. I said to myself....it's time to turn on my machines and get busy. Ok. Since this is the first post of year 2011 (LOL) I will post all my sewing project pictures. I made a pillowcase dress for myself and for my American Girl dolls. It was a fun project and as you can see I made a lot of dresses. I also made couple of tutu skirts just for fun.

I have to confess that I haven't been sewing or embroidery for LONG TIME!!!! It's not that I don't do it anymore, it's just that I have been learning something different like "web desing" and taking "photoshop classes". Anyway, a co-worker of mine needed some monogram on aprons, she asked if I can do it, "of course, I can". I was glad I did it for her and all the aprons turned out very pretty. Here is a video clip. Hello, As you can see I have been busy making doll clothes. Man....let me tell you....making doll clothes are so much fun. It's quick and easy to manage, since I am working with smaller pieces of fabrics that really make my sewing life lot easier. Ok....you may know that I am not an experience sewer, but making a doll cloth shouldn't be hard. (I think) I didn't really want to use a doll cloth pattern and as usual...I want it make it quick an easy project, so I turn into Youtube. I found this video has step by step making doll cloth for the American Girl doll. Since they all size 18", I basically just follow the steps. Here are some pictures that I want to share with you.

I purchased this Doll from ToyRUs. Compare to the "American Girl Doll" this was way less $$$$. I decided to get this one first so I can start making some doll clothes. Hand mande Teddy Bear - Pink!

I bought a Simplicity Teddy Bear sewing pattern at Hancock Fabrics yesterday. I have never make any stuff animal (except Domo Kum doll for my daughter a week ago), so this was my first attempt. I was very please with the end result and I would consider to make few more in different colors. Fabric material needed: 1/2 yard cotton. sewing and construction time: 2.5 hrs Cost: Pattern $0.99 when it's on sales, fabric $2.00, Poly fills: $2.00. So what do you say? Total cost $5.00 plus about 3 hours of your time to make this cute pink teddy bear. Worth it? I think so.

Pot holder project

Many of you have lots lots of left over fabrics from your old projects. Since pot holder only need two small piece of fabrics, you can always find some left over material to get start this project. I don't know about you, but I would save any fabric piece that is no smaller than 3x3. You can even use little tiny pieces of fabrics to put them together like a patch work. You can be creative and let your imagination go wild. This pot holder is 8.25" x 8.25. I also used the Bernina Binder attchment foot no.94 with binder special foot no. 84 to make a matching binding. I just got the Bernina binder attachment foot and I LOVE it. It really get the job done in minutes. Now I can create lots of matcing binding with any projects, also I can make straps in a second. Tote bag

I used some left over fabric to make this cute tote bag. This was pre-quilted fabric, so I didn't have to add a lining. How easy and quick this project was. I spend less than $5.00 and it only take couple hours to finish. This is call money saving sewing project. It doesn't have to spend a lot of money to make something nice. This is a perfect example. How to make doggie bandanas

Dogs look so cute wearing bandanas and they can express themselves at the same time.
Fabric choices would be cotton or cotton blends, please avoid heavy fabrics like corduroy or denim.

Bandanas are easy to make but different sizes are needed for various sized dogs. The basic instructions for making the bandana are to cut a rectangle and hem it.

For a small dog cut the fabric 8"X10".
Medium dogs require a cut of 12"X16"
For a large dog cut the fabric 18"X26".

Fold the edge a mere quarter-inch, then fold over once again. Sew a few stitches then backstitch. Proceed in stitching around the perimeter of the bandana. Pin the hem first if that makes it easier for you. Instead of pinning you can iron the hem before stitching it. This creases the fabric and keeps it lying flat during stitching.

After sewing the bandana there are all types of ways to decorate it. Put fringe or fur along the edges or you can embroider a design or put a custom message on it.

We had a very special SGSG this month. We got together making button necklaces and bead bracelets. Also, we got to celebrate Rachel's birthday. Here are the supply list for all the projects we'll work on.

You can pick and choose what you want to make, here are the supplies for each.

Serger Projects on SWN

Hello, Thanks to my friend Patty who recorded "Sewing with Nancy" shows for me. I was able to make these serger projects by watching the show. I really like the glasses case project, but I still have hard time to make it perfect. The messenger bag was cute...but it's not sturdy that you can store a lot of items. Tips on embroider terrycloth:

Use a water-soluble topping, which is a good tip for all embroidery on terrycloth, Water-soluble topping will hold down the loops of the terrycloth making for a cleaner, more professional look.

Add more underlay to the existing design will keep them perpendicular to the existing underlay.

Important tips: When using water-soluble topping, it can be difficult to get all of the topping out of the lower case letters or small designs. Here's what you need to do: keep your scraps of the topping and ball it together to make a good size ball that fits well in your hand. Mist the area lightly with water and let sit for about 1 minute. Then Use the ball of scrap water-soluble topping, dab the area to be worked on and the moist topping will stick to the ball of scrap. This works great!

Hints and Rules for Monogramming

1. A traditional monogram for a girl has the last name initial in the middle, larger than the initial on the left and right.

Example: Mary Anne Jones would be MJA

2. A couple's monogram can be done in two different ways. The first is used the wife's initials only or use both the husband and wife's initials.
Example #1 - Mary Smith Jones would be MJS
Example#2 - Mr. & Mrs. Fred and Mary Jones, would be FJM

Our rule of thumb is to do what you like best!!!

3. If you are doing a monogram and have a nickname, you should use your legal name.

4. Some letters don’t always look great in the standard 3 letter monogram, (meaning center letter larger) be sure to view the font styles below to see your letters in the font you are thinking about.

5. The size of the monogram will be determined by the style and font you have chosen and the area to be monogrammed. Each product you see on the website shows where and the approximate size of the monogram.

Medium Size includes 26 letters for use in center position, 26 letters for use in left or right positions, and 6 frames. Center letters measure 64mm (2 1/2 inches) in height. Left and right letters measure 38mm (1 1/2 inches) in height. These designs have been placed on large hoops (approximately 5x7, specific size is dependent upon format).

Large Size includes 26 letters measuring 153mm (6 inches) in height for use in center position and 26 letters measuring 93mm (3 1/2 inches) in height for use in left or right positions. These designs have been created with a Step Fill stitch and are placed on large hoops (approximately 5x7, specific size is dependent upon format).

Small Size includes 26 letters measuring 51mm (2 inches) in height for use in center position and 26 letters measuring 30mm (1 1/4 inches) in height for use in left or right positions. These designs have been created with a Satin Fill stitch and are placed on small hoops (approximately 4x4, specific size is dependant upon format).

Embroidery using yarn couching set

Hello, I used yarn couching foot and thread the variegated yarn through the hole, then used a light color embroidery thread to stitch out this beautiful design. (picture one). I selected a simple embroidery design then added some free motion stitches afterward. Remember when you use yarn couching foot on embroidery, you need to adjust the speed way down. Felting projects

Towel Topper Project

This towel topper project idea was came from Embroidery Library. I bought the Sunflower design and it took me around 2 hours to have this topper done. Then, I use the towel topper outline to create my own topper, it's a great way to hang your hand towel and wash it when it's dirty (I have attached velcore on back of the towel), it's so easy to remove and attach on. I used pre-made pipping and randomly pick any decorative stitches from my machine....By using this custom made binder cover, it really added some sophistica look...I am very please with the end result. I have the step by step instruction for you.

Viking Designer Diamond Studio Project: Decorative Stitch Notebook Cover

Try out all your favorite decorative stitches and make this binder cover as you go! You can save all your test stitch outs, and notes in the binder and keep it close to your Designer Diamond for reference. We have given you instructions for both a small binder as well as a large binder.

• 3/4 yard Solid Color Fabric

Mark Fabric and Sew the Decorative Stitches:
1 On the main notebook piece (20” wide x 10 ¼” high or 26” wide x 12 ½” high) mark a diagonal line on the fabric from corner to corner using your Pictogram Pen.
2 Place Tear-A-Way stabilizer underneath the fabric.
3 Insert a size 90 topstitch needle. Thread with 40 wt. rayon thread on top and bobbin thread in the bobbin.
4 Touch Start Menu
5 The drop down Stitch Menu opens.
6 Select your favorite stitch.
7 Thread with 40 wt. rayon thread on top and bobbin thread in the bobbin. Snap on the recommended Foot. Stitch on the marked line.
8 Slide the Quilting/Edge Guide into the space at the top of the back of the ankle. Position the Quilting/Edge Guide to guide your rows of stitching. To finish more quickly, set the bar to 2” from your needle.

Follow These Stitching Instructions: Omnimotion Stitches:
• Snap on your Clear View S Foot. When stitching Omnimotion stitches from Menu K
begin by marking a line with your Pictogram Pen where the center of the stitch will be.
Start with your needle in the marked line. Stitch a few repeats of the design, then touch
and your Designer Diamond will complete the stitch, and stop. Check to be sure that you needle is still on the line. If it isn’t, adjust so you are back on the line. A small adjustment every few stitch repeats won’t be noticeable. Continue stitching, stopping every few repeats, to check.
Candlewicking Stitches:
• When stitching the Candlewicking Stitches in the Menu X be sure to snap on your Specialty Candlewicking Foot because it has a groove on the underside to feed over the
“raised knots” of the candlewicking stitches. The Specialty Candlewicking foot is needed for
the wider stitches, X1:2, X1:3, X1:4, X1:5, X1:6, X1:7, X1:8, X1:9 and X1:10. The
Candlewicking Foot with the narrow groove works best for X1:1. Candlewick stitches can be
sewn with either 12 wt., 30 wt or 40 wt. but 30 wt. is recommended.
Programming:
• Program stitches or letters together by touching.
Touch Stitch Menu or
Font Menu . Select your stitches or letters. Touch OK
and sew out your program.
Continue sewing rows of decorative stitches or programs until you have rows across the outside cover.
Sew the Notebook Cover:

1. Select fabric piece “B” and press a 1/4” hem on each of the longer sides. Snap on the Edge Stitching foot. Select A1:3. Align the edge of the fold with the flange on the foot and sew a perfectly straight hem!

2. Select fabric pieces “C” and sew a 1/4” hem on one long side on each piece.

3. Make Designer piping! Snap on your Piping Foot. Select D1:6
. Touch Side to Side

Mirror Image . Adjust the width to 4.0
. Touch ALT
. Move
the stitch to the left, by using Stitch Position to -1.5. Thread with 30 wt. red cotton thread on top and in the bobbin. Place the piping under the foot with the cord of the piping in the groove and the seam allowance to the right. Stitch the length of the piping.
4. Using your Husqvarna Viking Exclusive Sewing Advisor, select Woven Medium and Seam.
Move the needle one or two clicks to the right, away from the piping, by
touching the +
Stitch the piping around the outside edge of the fabric rectangle on the right side of the fabric, matching the
raw edges. Stop several inches before each corner and clip the seam allowance of the piping to allow the piping to lay flat.

•Embroidered piece “My Designer Diamond” from Designer Diamond Technique #8 trimmed to 9” high x 12” wide for pocket
•One piece 9” x 12” for pocket lining
•Two front/back pieces from the pattern you made (One for outer and one for lining).
•Mark the stitching line for the handle opening on the wrong side of one of the pieces.From Contrast Fabric:
•50” of 2 1/2” wide bias for side binding
•16” of 2” wide bias for pocket binding
•120” of 4” wide bias for ruffle

Sew:1. Snap on you “A” Foot. Select Medium Woven on your Exclusive Sewing Advisor. Place yourtwo front/back (fabric and lining) pieces right sidestogether. Stitch around the marked line for the handleopening. Trim in the center of the stitching, 1/4” fromthe stitching and snip into the corners as shown.
2. Turn through the opening and you have a finishedhandle opening.

Pocket:1.Place the embroidered 9” x 12” piece right sides together with the 9” x 12” lining piece. Snap on your Clear 1/4” Piecing Foot w/Guide. Stitch the two 9” sides.
2.Turn, press.
3.Snap on your Adjustable Binder Foot.
4.Press your 2” wide strip of bias with your Clover BiasTape Maker so it is 1” wide with each edge folded in.
5.Cut the end to a point and insert it into yourAdjustable Bias Binder. Bind the top edge of thepocket leaving an extra 1/4” of binding at each end.For more information on using the Adjustable BiasBinder and your other accessory feet, go towww.husqvarnaviking.com or consult the AccessoryUser’s Guide that came with your Designer Diamond.
6.Fold under the extra binding on each end of the pocket. Pin in place on the front of yourFront/Back piece centered, with the raw edges on the bottom even.
7.Snap on your Edge Joining Foot. Select A1:3 , Right needle Position. Stitch on each side of the pocket.

Add the Ends:
1.Snap on your Clear Seam Guide foot. Place your left end pieces wrong sides together. Pin to the left end of the cover matching the center mark on the end piece to the center of the side. Sew with the curved end piece down, as you would in setting in a sleeve. Hold back the top layer slightly to ease in the excess fabric as needed.
2.Repeat for the right end.
3.Trim the seam allowance to 1/4”.4.Press the 2 1/2” wide bias strips in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Place the bias strip on the end side of your cover. With the bias against the feed teeth, stitch over the previous seam line.
4.Press so that the binding and seam allowances are away from the cover. Bring the binding around to the front/back side of the cover.
5.Snap on your Left Edge Topstitch Foot. Select F11 and stitch the binding in place.

Make the Ruffle:
1. Select Woven Medium , Seam/Overcast on your Exclusive Sewing Advisor. Place your ruffle strips right sides together, matching the short ends. Stitch your ruffle pieces endto end to form one long piece.
2.Snap on your 4mm Rolled Hem foot. Hem one long edge of the ruffle strip. For more information on using the Rolled Hem feet and your other accessory feet, go to www.husqvarnaviking.com.
3.Hem one long edge of the ruffle strip.
4.Attach your Ruffler. Set on 1, and unscrew the adjusting screw most of the way. Mark a 12” section of the hemmed strip and ruffle a test piece. It should ruffle down to a bit more than 4”. If it is too long or too short, adjust the adjusting screw. When your test strip is correct, ruffle your ruffle.
5. Select Seamon your Exclusive Sewing Advisor. Snap on your Clear Seam Guide Foot.Place right sides together around the bottom of the cover and stitch using a 5/8” seam allowance.Join the ends by choosing Seam/Overcast and stitching from the hem edge to the raw edge. This insures that the hem edge will match exactly.
6. Finish the seam allowances by touching Overcast on your Exclusive Sewing Advisor, or by serging on your Huskylock serger.
7. When it is time to put your Designer Diamond to bed, drop your dust cover over her and she will be clean and comfy for the night.4

How to make your own tissue pouches

Do you like my cute tissue pouch project? I made these in one evening and it was so fun that I had to make a bunch. Thanks to my friend Sandra who showed me how to make this and it was so easy and quick and I couldn't believe that I can make a dozen in one night. Here is the picture and you will find instruction on "HOW TO" below....Happy Stitching!

Do you know you can make tissue pouches that match the decor of your home or car's interiors in no time? Rather than shopping for one with the right colors and patterns, now you can make a wonderful craft project like this for your family and friends.

Steps

Use a tissue to measure out your fabric. Cut a rectangle of about 2 inches wider than the tissue (1 inch on each side) and 3 times the height of the tissue, with a couple of more inches of allowance.
Cut a second square of fabric. One to be used for the lining and the other for the cover.
Place the fabric squares on top of each other so that the wrong side of each fabric is facing out. Sew along the edges, leaving a small gap, or opening on one side.
Pull the fabric inside out through the small gap so that the right side of the fabric is now facing out. Lay it down with the cover fabric facing upwards.
Fold the two sides of the fabric inwards so that the edges meet in the middle. Pin along the edges.
Sew along the edges, and in doing so, sew up the gap you left earlier.
Fold the pouch inside out again and fill it with tissues.

Tips

You can make this to fit the size of a small rectangular box of tissues also. Just measure the box instead of the tissues.
To make it fit individualized small tissue packs, change the measurements once again, and follow the same directions.
While adults can do the cutting and stitching, a small child can feel that they are contributing by allowing them to pull the fabric inside out, or to place the tissue on top of the fabric.
Embroidery work, sequins and other decorations can also be added to further decorate and personalize your tissue pouch.
You can add straps to fit around the visor in your car, and voila! You'll never lose your tissue box in the car again!

Hello, Happy Friday! It's been a productive day for me. I've finished two applique hand towel projects. Thanks to my sewing gal Rachel, she inspired me with this technique and I just love it. It looks so neat and professional, I can use this technique on towels, burp cloth, as a patch or many more. Total time on embroider each towel was about 20 minutes. I used my 4D professional embroidery software to create these designs. I got more to come....stay tune....Keep on stitching!

Today is our first SGSG meeting for the year 2009. Our project of todayis "Sewing Organizer". Patty, Ronnie, Rachel and Sandra were all there and Sandra was our instructor for this fun project. We were able to finish it in couple hours (with some prep work) and I was able to make a tissue cover in 20 minutes. It's been a fun afternoon and here are some photos to share with you. More Burp Cloth project

It's always fun making burp cloth for new borns! There are so many embroidery designs you can find and personalized any way you want. I created this design using my 4D software, combine two separate designs in one and it came out beautifuly. I can see myself making more burp cloths, who is the next lucky baby!? Let's guess....

Total cost of material: $3.00. Time: 1.5 hours

How to make Baby Burp Cloth

Material: Cloth diaper, Topper (stabilizer), fashion fabric (15” x 7”)

1. Place a tear-away stabilizer then place the cloth diaper on top with a piece of topper. Start to embroider a design of your choice.
2. Sew two ribbons on to the center fold of the cloth diaper.
3. Now, let’s attach the bottom piece onto the cloth diaper.

First, make sure to place your fabric about 4” from the bottom of the diaper and on the back side of the diaper, lay the fashion fabric right side down, stitch all the way width wide. Fold the fabric down with right side up and fold down ¼” allowance, then fold the piece back up and line up with the sewn seam. Stitch both side (length-wide/ top to bottom), now you had made a pocket, turn the pocket to the front to cover the right side of the diaper, use monofilament thread or matching thread to top stitch the front seam.
4. Now your baby burp cloth is finish. Happy Sewing!!!

Hope Yoder Flip Flop Tag-A-Long

Hello, I am back with a new finished project. Actually this is a small luggage tag project and I was able to get it done in one hour. I personalized with name and it's very easy to make. In Hope Yoder's instruction, she said to use fusible interfacing with fabirc, but...instead, I used pellon fusible and it also gave support to the tag. It turned out better than I expected.

How to create a Luggage Tag Using 4D Stitch Editor Software?

Steps to follow:
1. Launch 4D Embroidery Software
2. Choose hoop size (4” x 4”), orientation: vertical.
3. Open 4D Stitch Editor from top tool bar.
4. Choose “New” icon (looks like a blank sheet of paper) from top tool bar.
5. Select modify tab
6. In the Edit drop down menu, select “Preferences”.
7. In the Preferences window, select “Border” tab.
8. In the Border tab, change Satin Border width to 3.0mm, (or 4.00mm for wider border) then click OK.

9. Choose shape #40 under the Border/Applique shapes filmstrip.
10. Click the Draw Border Shape button.
11. Use your mouse to draw/create a desired size. At this point, you will see the “dancing lights” around the size of your shape.

12. Click on the green “Create External Applique” button drop-down arrow and choose “Create External Applique.”
13. Choose #2 under the Border/Applique shapes filmstrip.
14. Click on Draw Border Shape button.
15. Use your mouse to draw/create a small circle on either upper right hand or upper left hand corner (later, you will cut the circle then thread your ribbon through the hole), at this point, you will have a “dancing lights” around your circle that you just created.

16. Click on the green “Create External Applique” button drop-down arrow and choose “Create Internal Applique”.

17. Go back to the Design tab and select color #1 (should be blue) Change to red.
18. Choose color #2 (probably be blue) and change to green.
19. Copy design to clipboard and go back to 4D Embroidery screen.
20. Paste the tag design onto the screen hoop and then select the Edit tab.
21. Choose the “Change Order of Color Blocks” button under Modify
22. Move color #1 (red) down 2 positions so that is now between the 2 color blue blocks. Click OK.

23. Go back to the Design tab and select an embroidery design using the camera icon on top tool bar. Or, you can go to the Letter tab to input your name for personalized purpose.

Note: if you decide to put your name on the tag, rotate your design to horizontal and make sure your circle is located either on upper right hand or upper left hand corner.

24. Modify/Resize the selected design if necessary and then place the design on the tag.
25. Now, it’s time to combine the two designs by click on the Combine icon. Note: do not color sort!
26. You are ready to embroidery your luggage tag by following the steps below.

Steps for making a Luggage Tag on your embroidery machine:

Supplies: Tear Away Stabilizer, two pieces of fabric that is larger than your hoop size (top piece and bottom piece), embroidery thread (choose same color for both bobbin thread and top thread), ribbon.

1. Send your luggage tag design to your machine or memory stick from 4D software.
2. Hoop a tear-away stabilizer on a 4” x 4” hoop (no fabric at this time, only stabilizer).
3. First, we will do an outline stitch on stabilizer. Select color #1.
4. Remove your hoop then put your top layer fabric on top of your outline stabilizer, push #1 color to stitch the outline on the fabric.
5. You will stitch the luggage design or your name first, so let’s stitch out color #5 now.
6. After color #5 (design or name) stitched out, remove your hoop.
7. Put your bottom piece fabric on back of your hoop (you can use the adhesive spray to give some stability).
8. Go to color #3 to stitch out the circle, after finish stitching, remove hoop.
9. Cut out the excess of top and bottom piece very close to the satin stitch (make sure not cut too close to thread).
10. Thread your ribbon through the hole on your tag. Ribbon length is base on your desire.

Now you are done!!! Enjoy your tag :)

Designer Diamond Project – It’s in the Bag!

I made this beautiful "Vintage Purse" using Designer Diamond machine. I couldn't believe how beautiful this bag turn out. I used four different color of silk dupioni, cut into 2" strip (wide) and 22" long. Piece all the stradas together then using different decorative stitches in Designer Diamond (most stitches are from J and X menu)stitch on all the pieces. You will need a lining inside than make some buttonholes on the band on top, thread your cord(you need one yard) through the buttonholes then tie in a knot at the end. Info: 1/8 of yard can make two medium size of bag. Silk dupioni price is $15.99 per yard. Cord is $2.49 a yard. Below is a complete instruction of how to make this bag....Happy Sewing!

Sewing Supplies:
• Husqvarna Viking Designer Diamond • Assorted 40 wt. Sulky or Robison Anton Rayon
Embroidery Threads
• Bobbin thread • Sulky 30 wt. Blendable Threads • Sewing Thread
• Silk: One strip 2” wide x width of fabric of each color, pink, burgundy and blue (total 3 strips)
• One green strip 3” wide x width of fabric • 11” x 19” Lining Fabric
• One roll 12” wide Inspira Tear-A-Way Stabilizer • 1 yard 3/16” Twisted Cord
• Two Decorative Buttons • Inspira 90 Topstitch Needles• Candlewicking Foot• Left Edge Topstitch Foot • Clear Open Toe Foot • Clear 1/4” Piecing foot w/Guide • Clear B Edge/Joining Foot • Specialty Candlewicking Foot • Button Foot with Placement Tool • Pictogram Pen

1. Cut each silk strip in half, to measure approximately 22” long. Set aside one of the green pieces for the top band.
2. Snap on your Clear 1/4” Piecing Foot w/guide. Select Woven Light, Seam on your
exclusive Sewing Advisor.
Piece your silk strips together with the green in the center, blue on each side of the green, then pink and the burgundy on the outside. Press the seams open.
3. Place your pieced strata on the Tear-A-Way stabilizer. Thread with pink 40 wt. rayon thread on top and bobbin thread in the bobbin.
4. Using your Pictogram Pen, mark a line down the center of the green 3” wide center strip. Select stitch J1:7 . Snap on your Clear B Edge/Joining Foot. Stitch down the center of the strip keeping the flange in the center of your foot aligned with the marked line.
5. Re-thread with 30 wt. Blendable Thread on top. Select Candlewicking Stitch X1:9
Snap on your Candlewicking Foot. Stitch on each side of the center line of stitching.
Let the edge of the foot ride along the row of stitching.
6. Using your Pictogram Pen, mark a line down the center of each pink strip. Select Candlewicking
stitch X1:6 . Stitch down the center of the pink strip. Repeat on the other pink strip.
7. Snap on your Clear B Edge/Joining Foot. Select J1:21 . Thread with Green 40 wt. rayon thread. Align the flange of the foot with the seam line between the blue and pink strips. Stitch down the seam line. Repeat on the other blue/pink strip.
8. Select J1:3 . Touch stitch width + and increase the width to 7.0 Touch
stitch length + and increase the length to 6.0. Thread with blue thread and stitch between the pink and burgundy strips.
9. Snap on your Clear Open Toe Foot. Select J1:6 Thread with pink thread. Stitch on the blue strip, so the stitching just barely goes into the green center
strip.
10. Touch Side to Side Mirror Image. Start back at
the same end as you did on the previous side, and stitch on the other side of the green strip.

11. Carefully, remove your stabilizer. Press your piece and cut down to 11” x 19”. Trim your lining to match your pieced outer bag if necessary.
12. Thread with sewing thread on top and in the bobbin. Snap on your Clear 1/4” Piecing Foot w/Guide. Fold your silk in half matching the short edges. Stitch one side (the fold is the bottom). Repeat with your lining.
13. Place the top edges of the bag and lining wrong sides together. Fold the 3” x 22” fabric for the band in half lengthwise wrong sides together and press. Place the band on the right side of the silk and pin all the layers together, matching the raw edges. Touch Woven Medium Seam/overcast on your Exclusive Sewing Advisor ® and sew to attach the band. Your Exclusive Sewing Advisor ® recommends the “J” Foot.
14. Press so that the seam allowance is pressed away from the band.
15. Snap on your Sensor Buttonhole foot. Select B1:4, size 14 . Stitch a buttonhole
centered on the band, at EACH seam intersection where the silk strips are joined.
There are 12 total. Place stabilizer underneath the fabric. Place the decorative stitch part of the purse toward you as shown, and align the center of the right hand portion of the foot with the band seam.
16. Touch Woven Medium Seam/overcast on your Exclusive Sewing Advisor ®. Fold right sides together and stitch the other side seam including to the top edge of the band.
17. Fold the corner up so the second strip is squared off as shown. Pin
in place. Snap on your Button Foot with Placement Tool. Remove the Accessory Box to
give you access to the free arm. Stitch a button through all the
layers to hold the corner in place.
18. Thread your cord through the buttonholes and tie in a knot at the end. Fill your bag with goodies, and you are ready to go!

Hello there, As you can see I've been making Christmas items lately. I am way ahead of my schedule and I feel good about my finished projects especially the last one I did - Christmas curtain! The width of the curtain is 78" and length is 22". I love the scallops style valance, so I cut it to scallops look. Christmas Stocking

As you can see....I am ahead of the schedule. I just finished three stockings for Christina and Angela's dogs. Christina wanted to buy some stockings and asked me if I can monogram her puppies name on the stockings. First of all, I'd like to "Thanks" Lisa and Ronnie; they did a wonderful job on showing us how to make a "Fabric Pumpkin" and "Mini book". We had another successful SGSG meeting! Most of us finished both projects and take home a pumpkin and a mini book. Luckly I have Brenda learn how to make a mini book for me and she can teach me later. Hello....I started early this year to get ready for the holiday projects. Now I got this cute Christmas tree skirt done and I am so proud of myself. For this project...I created the pattern and make it a reversible tree skirt. Total project time is about 7 hours, material is about two yards. You will need almost 5 yards of binding, that is it. Since this was my first hand made tree skirt, I might make another one if I have time. Happy Stitching!

Tortilla Warmer project

Hello, I am back. This was a project on "Sewing with Nancy" and my good friend Patty was so nice to show me how quick we can make couple of tortilla warmers in one afternoon. This also can be a good gift idea.....Happy stitching....

Fabrics needed:
14” of printed cotton fabric
100% cotton Warm and Natural batting
Cotton muslin
(Cotton is required to go in the microwave.)

The patterns for the printed fabrics are:

13” diameter for the front,
11” for the large piece on the back,
and 5 ¼” for the small piece on the back.

The patterns for the batting and muslin fabrics are:

13” diameter for the front,
10 1/2” for the large piece on the back,
and 4 3/4” for the small piece on the back.

The back pieces of batting and muslin are ½” smaller so you can fold (and sew) the printed fabric over them before sewing all 3 pieces together.

This idea came from American Patchwork & Quilting magzine. Instead of using kitchen towels I used placemats. This project took about an hour and I used two placemats. As you can see I attached my favorite Bernina butterfly as docoration. Happy Sewing!

Cardigan Makover

This is one of my favorite cardigan that I have for many many years. Recently I discover a hole right below the neckline and I really hate to throw it away....so I thought if I can embroider something to cover the hole...I should be able to wear it for another few years. Hello, This Saturday I made a Martha Pullen Heirloom Neckroll Pillow. It is using Martha Pullen Heirloom techniques by serger and it was quick and easy project. I took this class at Viking sewing Gallery and it was tought by Kathy. She was a wonderful instructor and I had a lot of fun. I was unable to finish this pillow during class but I was able to follow the instruction when I got home and now I have it finished. See pictures....Happy sewing!

I am in the making cards mode this weekend, so here are two more cards that I made Sunday. Making personal greeting card can be very creative and fun, my daughter certainly enjoy stamping and embossing on craft papers. I foreseen this can be a fun mother-daughter project!

Latte Quilt was a biggest project that I have ever involved. This was a center medallion piece, I didn't want to finish the whole quilt so I only made the center part. I want to put on my wall for decoration....I know it's going to be gorgeous!

I made a St. Patrick’s fabric bowl for me to take to work. I just love “Fabric bowl” project, it’s such a fast/easy project that I can finish it in an hour. I know I will make many more for every month and soon I know it….I will have a collection of different fabric bowls.

Hello, I am back with my latest new project. I just learned how to make "Fabric Bowls" today. It's such a fun/quick/easy project that you can easily make a fabric bowl in one hour. I made one in our SGSG this afternoon and soon after I got home, I used the valentine's day fabric to make a smaller fabric bowl for my daughter's teacher, because her birthday is on Valentine's day! Sew Fun...Sew Good...Sew Fantastic!

Hope you all had a wonderful New Year and Christmas. My family and I spend our holidays oversea and we had a good time celebrate Christmas with our relatives. So…as you know….I haven’t touched my sewing machines for weeks and I am not eager to start any sewing projects yet because I haven’t been feeling well :( I am going to a quilt class this weekend and I hope I will warm up and get my sewing mode back on track. I made this butterfly brooch on Bernina Artista 730E. The color is so vibrant and you need to see it in person to believe this butterfly can actually fly ( Ok....I am stretching a little ). All I want to say is that I can make a beautiful brooch in 30 minutes. You can pin it on a jacket or on your favorite bags. It's a fun and quick project, it's also a good last minute gift idea.

Halloween Bag

I was planning to make a ragged Halloween bag, but my daughter didn't like ragged style purse, so I make it a regular rectangle bag. I didn't put a snap on because I didn't want to put in extra sewing time for this type of holiday bag. Oh, Well....it turned out pretty cute. I am sure it comes handy on the trick or treat night! Project time: 2.5 hours; cost: $5.00 - Happy Sewing.

Majestic Jacket

I made this ragged jacket from McCall pattern #4798, it's a very fun project but it takes a lot of time to cut the patterns and plan all the fabrics on the right place. I plan to make couple more of this type of jacket and stay tune.

Jelly Rolls Quilt - 20th quilt

I purchased some 2.5" strips and piece them together to make this Jelly Rolls quilt. This entire project took about 5 hours, so this is a fast project to me. Saving all your 2.5" strips, pretty soon you can use your scraps to make a beautiful quilt. Happy Quilting!!

Blooming Nine Patch - 19th quilt

This was a class that I took from my favorite quilt teacher Debbie, I can never imagine myself making a quilt like this, because the pattern looks so complicated. I finally got it put together and quilted. I am keeping this quilt for myself, I am sure it will look beautiful on my bed.

New PJ by serger

I made this Pajama pants by serger using McCall's pattern 3432 size 3/4. I shorten the length a little bit to make it more like a capri. Since it's 100% cotton it feels so good to go to sleep. This pattern was easy to follow, you have 2 pieces of front and back, sew them right side together using serger, it's fast and very secure seams that it will not fall apart. After finish all four seams, make a casing on the top then insert an elastic. I used 1.5 " wide elastic, you can use any width base on the pattern spec. Project time: 1.5 hours. Fabric: 2 yards. Elastic: 28" long, 1.5" wide.

This is my latest quilt project. This quilt looks very unique but it’s easy to make. All I have to do is to piece 3” strip and 2” strips together then sub-cut every 4 ½”…here you have this quilt. Happy Quilting.

Baby Diaper Bag

Well....well...well....I always want to make a baby diaper bag for a baby shower gift, but I never had a chance to do it until now. A very good friend of mine's wife is expecting a baby, the due date is late August, I decided to make this diaper bag for their baby girl, I really like the fabric pattern and it's perfect for diaper bag. My third Crazy Quilted Purse

I had trouble to put all the pieces together at first, then I decided to cut the front piece in half, now...it's more like the crazy patch I am looking for. We had a blast at Rachel's house for the pass couple Sunday. Rachel showed us how to make a "Crazy Patch Purse" and eveybody got a hang of it and we all have a crazy patch purse made in our own unique style. Here is my Crazy Patch Purse. College Qult - my 18th finished quilt

I made this two quilts in one (each side has its own design) for my sister-in-law who lived in California who has two son graduated from UCLA and University of Texas. Becky created this quilt pattern using the colors from these two colleges, it's a 46" x 66" lap quilt and I hope this unique/special made quilt will light up her living room. Happy Sewing!!!

Many of you might know Christopher Nejman is a famous artist in many areas. Mini Table Runner - Hemstitch

I made this table runner for my coffee table; I applied the hemstitch technique and put on the scallops edge on each side. I also embroidered a heart in the center to added an elegant look. This table runner was a bit small for the regular dinning table, so I put it on my coffee table. Happy Sewing!

Hope Yoder's Fancy Band Pillow

This is a Hope Yoder's Fancy Band Pillow heirloom technique that I've learn at Viking Sewing Gallery. This was a smaller version of a pillowcase, but I really like the piping insertion and the heirloom lace edging with the ruffle.
